Their hard-fought victory means they retain the English League title – but Great Dane will be keen to gain revenge when the two meet again in the English Cup final in Sheffield in two weeks time. Both teams went into the league match with key players out through injury, but Great Dane were boosted by the news that goalkeeper Ida Griffith had finally been cleared to play by the EHF.
Ruislip meanwhile had long term injury victim Zsusi Telek back in the playmaker role, and she was to play a big part in their win. Griffith also made a significant contribution in a match where both goal keepers were ingood form but the Great Dane’s keeper had a great second half display and picked upthe player of the match vote for her efforts.
After a steady start to the match where defences dominated, Ruislip began to build up a small lead and restricted Danes to only a few goals. But with a 7-3 lead they then suffered what could have been a major setback with the injury to Lenka Kocisova who could play no further part, and Great Dane started to claw back the deficit thanks to some great shooting and counter attacking by Iris Manu.
