Viewers of Sky Sports 4 at 10pm on Thursday 5th March, 2010, will be able to see the first perfect performance from a Co-operative Netball Superleague shooter. Leeds Carnegie’s Aussie hotshot did not miss during her four quarters on court against Celtic Dragons; she nailed 30 from 30.
It was a tight match. Each team won one half but the home side’s second quarter goal-fest was enough to keep them a head of the fast-finishing Dragons. Backing up Dziwoki, Jo Walker had a solid match but it was the young WA Natalie Haythornthwaite who was providing the platform for the shooters to build on. She was named player of the match for keeping her head under duress.
Celtic Dragons held their own in the first 15 minutes of the game, before the international break the team had been building momentum with morale boosting performances. But Leeds raced into a significant half-time advantage that proved decisive in the end.
The Welsh side finished strongly but there was too much ground to regain and he Dragons had to settle with the knowledge that they had won the last half of the match. Job done by Carnegie who move to third in the Superleague table, having played 10 matches.
The home side’s co-coach Marion Lofthouse summed up the night. “Leeds Carnegie produced a workman like performance with some good passages of play.”
“Carla Dziwoki had a 100% shooting record which pressurised the Celtic Dragons.”
“The Leeds defence of Jo Davies and Lauren Potter held strong throughout the game and made timely interceptions.”
“Player of Match Natalie Haythornthwaite produced some defence splitting passes into the circle.”
