Dominoes 8th annual tournament a huge success 2009

Over 600 women came to East Manchester to play netball (Sat 1st AUG) at Wright Robinson College the home of Dominoes Netball Club Manchester. This year’s tournament was the biggest event yet !!

Supported by Netball UK, Asics and Warburtons, the event saw hundreds of women battle against the elements to play netball for over 8 hours. Teams from as far as Glasgow, Norwich and London came to take part, organiser Yvonne Coldrick said – ‘it was ambitious to play 64 teams in a one day event but we’ve had lots of positive feedback, it’s great profile for Manchester as this year the World Series Netball comes to the MEN arena’ ‘we’ll definitely do the same next year’. The Club managed to get the support of many Manchester companies this year including Princes drinks of Gorton, McVities and The Palace Hotel amongst others.

The Club’s event is unique for providing goody bags the contents of which are greatly sought after. Jelly Belly annually provide bags of sweets and this year Nivea donated false tan! As well as penguins and Heinz goodies in the bags this year teams also got Asics and Warburtons goodies

The play consisted of teams playing 7 games in a round robin, and then they go on into the Cup or Plate sections The final in the Plate was between Rochdale & Barge & Bottle Hurricanes (Lincolnshire!). Hurricanes were the victors winning 9 goals to 6. The Final of the cup was a close match between Dominoes A who battled to beat fellow Manchester team Flava  (Moss Side)  6 goals to 4.

This year the club asked travelling teams to bring unwanted kit, it was agreat success and this has been taken for the Friends of Mulanjie Orphans in Malawi

The club will be holding the same event next year Saturday 7th August2010 and would like to take this opportunity to thank the supporters of this event including Gilbert, Mitre , Pure Mcr, Poshu and Riverford organic vegetables.
