Diamonds head west for Constellation Cup decider

The Australian Diamonds will play an international Test match in Perth, Western Australia, for the first time since 2011 after Netball Australia announced the team’s international calendar following the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015.



The Diamonds, defending Constellation Cup holders, will host a two-Test Netball Test Series against the Silver Ferns in October with the maiden Test at Perth Arena, Perth (30 October) a fitting finish to the year.
 
The international fixtures on Australian soil will immediately follow two Tests in New Zealand at Horncastle Arena, Christchurch (20 October) and Vector Arena, Auckland (22 October) as part of a four-Test Constellation Cup series.
 
Australia has contested 16 Tests in Perth, however only four have come against the Silver Ferns, including a 49-48 defeat to New Zealand when the two sides last met in an international Test in Western Australia.

“We’re excited to be bringing world-class international netball back to Western Australia for the first time in four years with the deciding Constellation Cup match against the Silver Ferns,” Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander said of her team’s return west.

“We look forward to renewing our rivalry and rewriting the history books against the Silver Ferns in Perth; it hasn’t traditionally been a happy hunting ground for Australia, having lost three of our four previous matches against New Zealand.”

Tourism WA’s Executive Director Events, Gwyn Dolphin, said premium international level sporting events are great for tourism, from an attendance, vibrancy and broadcast point of view.
 
“We are delighted to bring the best in netball to Western Australia, and to stage the match in the stunning Perth Arena,” Dolphin said.
