LaShinda Demus set world leading marks in the 400m hurdles action Saturday night at the 2008 Jamaica International Invitational in Kingston, Jamaica.
2005 World Outdoor Championships silver medalist LaShinda Demus won the women's 400m hurdles in the world leading time of 54.83 seconds. Jamaican Shevon Stoddart was second in 55.68, with American Markita James third in 56.79. Demus' performance bettered the previous world best of 54.97 by Tiffany Williams posted April 12 in Coral Gables, Fla.
Other U.S. winners included 19-year-old Bianca Knight defeated Jamaican Olympic champion Veronica Campbell-Brown in the women's 200 meters. Knight crossed the finish line in 22.62 seconds, with Campbell-Brown finishing as the runner-up in 22.93.
Additionally, 2006 IAAF Athlete of the Year Sanya Richards was victorious in the women's 400 meters in 50.60 seconds, defeating Jamaicans Novlene Williams-Mills (51.63) and Sonita Sutherland (52.94).
