
The first world champion of 2016 was crowned in the women’s individual pursuit this evening, with Australia’s Rebecca Wiasak taking home the first rainbow stripes of the week with 3:34.099. She defeated Poland’s Malgorzata Wojtyra (3:41.904) in the final. Annie Foreman-Mackey from Canada took the bronze medal, beating Ruth Winder of USA (3:39.902).

The women’s team sprint was won by Russia’s Daria Shmeleva and Anastasiia Voinova. In the final, China’s Jinjie Gong and Tianshi Zhong were relegated for an illegal change, therefore losing their world title to Russia.
There was disappointment for Great Britain in the team sprint events with women’s teams missing out on the medal rides, finishing 5th respectively.
