Day 7 highlights Asia Pacific Open

Host nation Australia didn't start the day too well today with a couple of
losses.  Kelsey Cottrell was no match for Fiji's Litia Tikosuva who
won the game 21-13.  The game was pretty much Litia's all the way with
Kelsey having a lull and failing to score in ends 8-14 inclusive.

The Australian women's fours triples gave the team a little more
reason to smile with a 35-6 win over Samoa for the women .

The women's singles pool 2 continues to be a hotly contested discipline.
Carman Anderson of Norfolk Island continues her run of success with a win
over Philippines this morning 21-16 however it was a close game with both
ladies on 14 after 17 ends.

Also in that pool, Malaysia had a comfortable win over Brunei 21-4 and Kiwi
Val Smith had a close start against Hong Kong with the scores level at 8-8
after 11 ends.  By end 17 Val was up 17-10 and she put her foot down to
triumph 21-14 after 22 ends.  The other singles contender in that pool,
Kelly McKerihen of Canada had a bye this morning.

The afternoon session saw Philippines win comfortably over Hong Kong 21-14
and Anderson of Norfolk Island remain undefeated with a win over Brunei
21-11.  Match of the round was between Malaysia and Canada with the more
experienced Sita Zalina Binti Ahmad from Malaysia taking it out the rubber
21-14 in a tight game.  Malaysia was actually down 12-14 after end 13 but a
4 on fourteen saw here leap to a 16-14 lead and take it home from there.

Other games worth noting from today - in the men's triples congratulations
go to Malaysia for an 8 in end twelve against Japan this morning.

Congratulations also to Adelaide's Kelli Wray (USA Women's coach) for her
team's 22-9 win over Japan in the women's fours also in the morning session.

"The men and women have all played well," Hong Kong team manager Sanie said.

"It's exactly what we expected on the greens in Adelaide."

"I want to express how much they have really enjoyed being here and the
highlight is of course the men's triples success."

Women's fours this afternoon saw Fiji command a strong lead over Singapore
to win 14-15, Hong Kong fared well again with a 18-19 win over Canada and
Norfolk Island and Malaysia battled it out with a nail biter.

Norfolk Island scored a 6 in end four but Malaysia bounced back to take the
score to 10-10 in the ninth.  Malaysia got a 5 on the 15th end which saw
them up 20-14 but didn't score again for the final three 3nds ends. Alas it
was too little too late for Norfolk Island who lost in a close game 20-19.
