Kerr sets new tournament record shooting 266 for 72 holes
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – After two days of rain, suspended play and an extended LPGA State Farm Classic, LPGA veteran Cristie Kerr secured the win at the 35th anniversary tournament. Kerr shot a 266 (22 under par) for 72-holes, posting a new course record. The previous low score for the State Farm Classic at Panther Creek was set in 2008 at 270. This is the 2nd State Farm Classic win for Kerr. She won the tournament in 2004 at The Rail.
During her post tournament press conference, Kerr said “It’s been a long week, but great week. I got a great start and the momentum carried through the tournament. Winning is just a culmination of everything you do better than everyone else that week. It’s is a great feeling.”
Coming in tied at second, posting 267 (21 under par) were 23-year-old Anna Nordqvist of Sweden and 22-year-old Na Yeon Choi of South Korea. This is Nordqvist’s second year on tour and Choi’s third. Nordqvist and Choi both posted the best finishes of their 2010 season to date at the 35th anniversary State Farm Classic. ShanShan Feng and Hee Young Park tied for third at 268 (20-under par).
“Despite the weather this week, we had an incredible tournament and an exciting four rounds of golf,” Executive Director Kate Peters said. “The sponsors, volunteers, staff, players and everyone involved in the tournament went above and beyond to make this tournament possible and we appreciate their commitment. Now we start planning for 2011.”
This is the 13th career win for Kerr and her first of the season. Kerr’s record also includes wins at the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open, the 2008 Safeway Classic Presented by Pepsi and the 2009 Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill.
