Cricket Australia has today thanked Karen Rolton for her outstanding leadership of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars over the past three years.
Rolton, who announced prior to the ICC World Twenty20 that she would step down as captain of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars at the end of the tournament, finished with an impressive record, including 30 wins from 43 one-day internationals, eight from 13 Twenty20 Internationals and one victory from two Tests.
She retires as Australia’s second-longest serving women’s captain, with only Belinda Clark leading the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars on more occasions.
“Cricket Australia thanks Karen Rolton for her efforts in guiding a new generation of Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars into international cricket,” Cricket Australia General Manager, Cricket, Michael Brown said.
“Karen decision’s to step down and allow Jodie Fields to assume the captaincy, while continuing her playing career, demonstrates the leadership and commitment to the team that have made her a legend of Australian cricket.”
Rolton is a member of the Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars squad for the upcoming ODI series and Test against England and will help Fields and vice-captain Alex Blackwell with their transition into the team’s formal leadership roles.
