Cricket Australia and Ford Australia today launched a search for Australia’s best backyard cricketers through the Ford Backyard Series Cricket competition.
Ford Backyard Series Cricket (BSC) will see mums, dads, sons, daughters and grandparents from all over Australia brought together in a national backyard cricket competition that will help raise money for local community cricket clubs.
Getting involved in Ford BSC is simple. Participants do not have to be a member of a cricket club, they just have to bring together a team of six people (4 male and 2 female) and register at www.fordbsc.com.au. There is a $50 registration fee, with $40 going to the local club that hosts the day – so getting involved in Ford BSC directly benefits grassroots cricket.
Players of any level and all ages are encouraged to participate as there is a strong emphasis on participation and the social side of a great Australian tradition – playing backyard cricket. For those teams that win through the rounds of Ford BSC there is an opportunity to represent your state or territory at the national finals prior to a Commonwealth Bank Series match at the Gabba in Brisbane.
Australian batsman Mike Hussey is one who grew up playing backyard cricket:
