The Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars have defeated the West Indies by 86 runs in the second WT20 INTL at Adelaide Oval today.
After being sent into bat the Australian side put on 4-160 from their 20 overs, a total which the West Indies failed to chase down, finishing 9-74. Jess Jonassen celebrated her 22nd birthday with the player-of-the-match award for her knock of 47 and figures of 2-12.
Commonwealth Bank Southern Stars openers Elyse Villani (50) and Jonassen (47) set up their side perfectly with a 93-run partnership. A quick-fire 45* from 26 balls from Captain Meg Lanning helped push the side's total to 160, with the team notching up 16 fours and four sixes for the innings. Shaquana Quintyne (2-32) was the only West Indies bowler to pick up multiple wickets.
West Indies opener Stafanie Taylor (19) was the highest run-scorer for the visitors, with Shemaine Campbelle (15) and Shanel Daley (14) her only teammates to reach double figures. The Australian bowling attack put on another dominant performance, with each player returning economical figures. Kristen Beams claimed her best WT20 INTL figures with 3-16 while Ellyse Perry (2-10) and Jonassen (2-12) picked up two scalps each
The two teams will meet for the third WT20 INTL on Friday at the MCG.
