Co-operative Netball Superleague: Harten Hits Heights for Lightning

Loughborough Lightning moved to within a point of league leaders Team
Northumbria in the Co-operative Netball Superleague, after a superb
display of shooting from new signing Jo Harten helped them to a 73-34
demolition of bottom side Celtic Dragons.

Harten, 18, who was a member of England's Netball World Championships
squad, showed no rustiness in her first Superleague match of the season,
netting 35 goals from 39 attempts and showed some neat interplay with
Olivia Murphy and Sarah Jane O'Sullivan, herself a member of England's U21
squad, in attack.

Meanwhile, Team Northumbria stay top of the table, after a hotly contested
34 all draw with Brunel Hurricanes. When the two sides met at the start
of the season, Northumbria ran out easy winners, but with England star
Sonia Mkoloma now back in the team after the Netball World Championships,
the North East side had to work hard to move the ball forwards in attack,
and veteran shooter Lisa Stanley needed to draw on all her experience and
skill to combat the physical attentions of the Hurricanes defence.

Reigning champions TeamBath moved into third place after avenging their
early season loss to last season's Grand Finallists Mavericks, with a
49-35 win at the University of Bath. Mavericks came within six goals in
the final period, thanks to some superb centre court work by England squad
members Clare Elsley and Naomi Siddall, but TeamBath's own international
combination of Binns, Greenway and Cookey had too much pace and accuracy,
and weathered the pressure to eventually put the game out of sight.

The final match of the weekend, between Leeds Carnegie and Northern
Thunder, takes place on Monday night at Greenbank Sports Academy in
Liverpool. A win would see Leeds move into fifth place overall, while
Thunder will be looking to kick start their season after several
disappointing results in recent weeks. Catch the action live, or watch
Sky Sports 3 on Thursday night at 6.00pm, in a show which will also
include highlights of TeamBath vs Mavericks.
