Li Xiaoxia beat Spain's Shen Yanfei (11-2, 10-12, 11-4, 11-4, 11-6) before Wu Yang overcame Viktoria Pavlovich of Belarus (6-11, 15-13, 7-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8) and Fan Ying continued her good form to overcome Japan's Sayaka Hirano (3-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-8, 11-4).
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, Guo Yue was also in no mood for charity; she beat Germany's Wu Jiaduo (11-8, 11-4, 11-8, 11-8).
Chinese Excellence Shines
Once again Chinese excellence shone through, a fact Shen Yanfei was quick to acknowledge.
"Playing against Li Xiaoxia is very different to playing against Li Jiao", explained Shen Yanfei, who the previous evening had beaten Li Jiao and broken Dutch hearts.
Topspin
"The amount of topspin that Li Xiaoxia imparts on the ball makes it really hard for me to block", added Shen Yanfei. "The topspins are so strong and of course she is so consistent."
Li Xiaoxia is both consistent and extremely well balanced at all times; very much in the mould of Zhang Yining, arguably the greatest player of modern times.
Different
Reversed rubber on both sides of the racket for Li Xiaoxia enables her to play the strong topspin strokes; as Shen Yanfei she is different, very different.

"I'm the killer", smiled Shen Yanfei. "The short pimples enables me to play fast and strong."
No doubt that is the situation but against Li Xiaoxia, the killer was tamed, arrested; Li Xiaoxia was in control.
