Cheshire’s fortunes did not improve in Middlesex, where several batsmen again failed, and again it was the lower order who edged the total towards respectability.
Kate Skelhorn (19) and Lorna Thomas (17) contributed useful lower order runs after Cheshire were reduced to 52-7 after losing their early wickets in three clusters. Sarah Bartlett, Raveena Lakhtaria and Dannii Warren all took three wickets for Middlesex.
To compound the low total, some of Cheshire’s bowling was of a variable standard. At 88-3 Middlesex were cruising to victory, with Thomas the only Cheshire bowler to enjoy success up to this point. Middlesex were given a scare when left-arm spinner Hannah Gradwell took 3-1 in her first three overs, but this proved to be too little too late for Cheshire. Gradwell’s scalps included the wickets of England’s Beth Morgan, and Cath Koschel, an excellent player of spin, for the match top score of 29.
