The awards for female cricket in Cheshire were presented at two separate presentation dinners last Friday.

At the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League Dinner, Emma Barlow, Gillian Spragg and Lauren Griffiths were the major winners. As well as collecting her Poynton team’s League Championship and Twenty20 trophies, Spragg also scooped the league’s first division bowling award.
As well as collecting the T20 Plate won by Appleton, Emma Barlow was the winner of the batting awards for both the first division and the cup competitions. Appleton also won two other individual awards connected to the CWCL’s cup competitions.

After presenting the first batch of awards as the League’s guest of honour, Cheshire captain and World Cup winner Griffiths then took home three awards for herself: the batting award and the Players’ Player of the Year for the county side, followed by the President’s Award for an outstanding contribution to women’s cricket in Cheshire. Appleton manager Sue Barlow was also the deserved recipient of a President’s Award for her sterling work as the League’s Junior Development Officer.
At the Cheshire Youth Cricket Awards there were two fantastic awards for the women’s game. Lorna Thomas was named overall Cheshire Youth Player of the Year, after captaining Cheshire Under 17 Girls to the national quarter-finals and being the leading wicket taker in the second division of the County Championship for the senior Cheshire Women side. Thomas’ Under 17 team also received the Team of the Year award, both awards being competed for by both boys and girls from the junior game in the county.
