Amelie Caze (FRA) has produced one of the great World Championships fencing performances to equal the world record with a phenomenal 29 victories and only 6 defeats.
The triple World Champion, never looked like getting beaten and finished 3 victories ahead of Adrienn Toth (HUN) in a 2 horse race at the top.
Brit Mhairi Spence recovered from a poor start to move back to 3rd position 6 behind Caze and is in a good position to medal at the end of the day.
Speaking of recovering, Olympic Champion Lena Schoneborn (GER) looked dead and buried, sitting back in 19th position midway through the fence. However, she used all her experience to move back up the ladder to 5th, but still a massive 9 seconds behind Caze.
Former World #1 Donata Rimsaite’s (RUS) day seems to be over as she is sitting back in 23rd position and out of contention.
