The National Senior Women's Rugby team is very proud to announce the renewed support of a very loyal sponsor in Edmonton based company LandLink Consulting Ltd.. First signed on to support the team just prior to the 2002 Women's Rugby World Cup in Spain, LandLink have come through time and again to support the National Senior Women’s Team.
It was at the 2009 Annual General Meeting that Rugby Canada executives were quietly approached by Barry Giffen, Past President of Rugby Canada and a partner in LandLink Consulting Ltd.. Mr. Giffen felt that an anonymous donation may be the catalyst to a domino effect through the rugby community where others would answer the challenge and support the cause.
With the pledges of support from current Rugby Canada Board members, Shawnigan Lake School, the Provincial Unions and additional fundraisers coordinated by leading grass roots clubs in Canada (Castaway Wanderers and Oakville Crusaders), he was quite right.
LandLink have provided some unique support to the Women’s program in years past. In 2004 during a tour to England, the company recognized the hard work and effort contributed by the players toward their own preparation and rewarded this dedication by providing each member of the team with 100 English pounds to spend, as they liked.
The LandLink Company has also been keen to hire members of the women’s rugby program and provide further support. Heather McDonald, a veteran from the 2006 World Cup Campaign was one such employee / athlete. The offer has been extended to the current team to continue to ease the financial burden where possible.
The Canadian Women’s team will depart for the UK in early August for one final training camp in Wales before they take on their opponents in pool play at the World Cup in Surrey, England. Pool matches take place on August 20th, 24th and 28th against Scotland, Sweden and France.
Prior to departing for the World Cup, the women will take on the USA in two final Test Matches in BC on June 14th & 18th.
