Canada wraps-up Barcelona Trophy on high

With the World Aquatic Championships less than a month away the Canadian National Team was thrilled to wrap-up up the Barcelona Trophy with two solid performances.

Canada’s Duet Tech team of Tracy Little and Elise Marcotte finished second as did Canada’s Team in the Free event.

Spain finished first with a score of 98.000, while Canada received a score of 95.000 and Japan finished third with 94.333.

“Our coaches had given us goals and we’re thrilled that we were able to accomplish them,” said Little.

“We’re extremely happy we were able to beat the Japanese team for a second time and we are ready to put the finishing touches on for the World Championships,” said Marcotte.

Canadian coach Julie Sauve said the girls did a great job and she feels they will be more than ready for the World Championships.

Things continued to go well for Canada as they were able to move ahead of the Japanese in the team event as well.

The host maintained its hold on first overall with a score of 97.833, while Canada separated itself from Japan with a score of 95.667 while Japan received a score of 94.500.

Coaches and athletes were extremely pleased with their performance and look forward to putting the finishing touches on their routines prior to the start of the World Aquatic Championships in Rome, which get underway July 18, 2009.

In addition to Canada and Spain, Japan, Great Britain, Switzerland and the Netherlands took part.
