Caguas sweeps Final volleyball Series in Puerto Rico
Caguas swept Guaynabo in the best-of-seven Final Series of Puerto Rico Women’s Superior League to obtain its eight crown in front of 6,500 spectators at Hector Soza Bezares Coliseum on Saturday.
Bethania De la Cruz scored 20 points, including three aces, Stephanie Enright added 11points and Annerys Vargas contributed 8, including two blocks, in the 25-22, 25-23, 25-23 victory. Prisilla Rivera had 12 points as the only player in double digits for Guaynabo.
The Puerto Rican Enright, who was voted the Most Improved Player in the regular season for second year in a row, won the Final Series MVP honors. She is the first native player to achieve the award since Karina Ocasio won it in 2007. The victory earns Caguas the ticket to represent Puerto Rico and NORCECA Confederation at the FIVB Club World Championship to be held in Doha, Qatar next December 15-21.
Caguas joins Europe' entry Fenerbahce of Turkey, Africa's Kenya Prisons of Kenya and South America's Unilver of Brazil as clubs qualified to the Qatar event. The Asian champions is still to be decided as also the wild card corresponding to another European club.
