British Water Polo takes second step towards europe

With their place in London 2012 now confirmed the British Women's Water
Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are ready to focus their attention
back on their European Championships campaign.

After storming to an emphatic 26-1 victory over Israel in their first
match in January, the 13-strong squad will now go head-to-head with
Ukraine, in what is expected to be a much tougher challenge.

Playing in Kharkiv, Ukraine, tomorrow's contest will mark the team's
20th competitive match this season and with a number of convincing wins
under their belt the team are looking strong.

Led by captain Fran Leighton, the squad have spent the past week at a
training camp in Hungary putting the finishing touches to their tactical
and physical preparations.

In what will likely prove to be their biggest competition in the
build-up to a home Olympics, the team will be eager to gain
qualification to the final stages of the tournament taking pace from
16th-19th January 2012 in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

To secure a place amongst the best European nations, Britain need to
finish in the top two of their four-team group which includes 2008
European silver medallists Spain, Ukraine and Israel.
