Cook is joined by seven other competitors to make up the male team whilst the female contingent is spearheaded by another sixteen year-old, German Open gold medallist Bianca Walkden (Elite Taekwondo Club, Liverpool). Walkden is joined by national academy member Farren Cummins (Aces Taekwondo Club, Manchester) who won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championship back in 2005.
Cummins commented: “I was delighted to win a bronze medal last time but with the work the team has put over the past eighteen months I really feel that we can put in an even better performance this time around. We are going to Azerbaijan with a very strong team and are looking forward to a good fight.”
Gary Hall, Performance Director for Great Britain, added: “We have an exciting crop of youngsters here, some of whom are sure to make names for themselves in years to come and these Championships will be the perfect showcase for their talents”.
