CUIABA (FIBA Americas championship for women) - The city of Cuiabá, in Mato Grosso State (Brazil), will host FIBA Americas Championship for Women, from 23 th to 27th September. It has been confirmed last Wednesday in a meeting with Gerasime Bozikis (president of Brazilian Basketball Federation), Robert Beck (vice-president), Baiano Filho (State Secretary of Sport) and Claudio Barreto Jr. (president of Mato Grosso Basketball Federation).
"We are very happy in accomplish such a great event. The city of Cuiabá has all facilities needed to host this competition and one of the best arenas in Brazil. I am sure that the FIBA Americas Championship will be a huge success and it will be very important to spread the practice of basketball" said Bozikis, reminding that in his administration, Brazil hosted the championship twice, in São Paulo (1993) and Maranhão (2001).
FIBA America Championship for Women will be played at Aecin Tocantins Arena, with 11 thousand seats. Eight national teams will fight for three spots in 2010 FIBA World Championship: Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
