In the women's event, Australia's Katrina Wright endured an indifferent day after going down in a tie-break to world number two Val Smith before recovering to defeat Malaysia's Emma Firyana Saroji in straight sets.
In the Junior World Cup, Sam Shannahan's title defence is officially over, with the Australian young gun ending her campaign in disappointing fashion this afternoon with a tie-break loss to Canada's Kelly McKerihen.
Having captured silver in 2009, before triumphing last year, Shannahan has a final round bye but can climb no higher than fifth to spell the end of her reign as the world's best under-25 player.
Staged from April 12 to 20 at the Warilla Bowling Club, the World Cup and Junior World Cup features competitors from 26 nations across the globe, with the finals broadcast on the ABC.
