Reigning champion Katrina Wright is on track for consecutive trophies after progressing through to the second round of the 2011 Australian Indoor Championships.
The current title-holder advanced after an enthralling victory over Yandina’s Kiani Andersen, 6-10, 8-3, 5-0.
Playing with a suspected broken hand, Wright finished strong and will still be favoured by many for this year’s crown.
Joining Wright in round two will be three-time winner Karen Murphy, who enjoyed a comfortable 9-3, 6-6 victory over Cabramatta young gun Lisa Mitchell.
Former Scottish international Kay Moran also progressed after seemingly rising from the ashes to claim victory over 2010 Champion of Champion pairs winner Tracy Foster, 1-12, 10-8, 3-2
