Annie came into the event confident she could ride well having felt good in the previous weeks race in London. A puncture cost Annie the chance of victory there, but there to be no such bad luck in Loughborough.
With 20km's to go, Annie attacked and finished the race solo to take a win by 4 minutes. Annie commented after the race "It was a great feeling to finally get my hands in the air in a road race, something I have been chasing after for a while. To have pulled out such a large lead has given me more confidence in my ability. Let's just hope it's the first of many!"
Meanwhile 4 riders from the team were taking part in the National 10 mile Time Trial Championships. Sarah Storey led the way for the team to win the Team competition, finishing 4th. Dani King, World Team Pursuit Champion, put in a fantastic performance to finish 6th. Jo Rowsell and Ella Sadler Andrews finished 8th and 16th respectively.
"It's the 2nd national team title that we hold now and I'm really pleased. From what I understand, high winds and heavy traffic were a ‘feature' of the race, so I'm pleased that all the riders have finished safely. Dani was really happy with her ride and I'm particularly impressed given it's her first real season of time trial racing." Commented team manager Stefan Wyman.
Over in Belgium, Nancy Arreola and Claire Thomas were taking part in a road race in Wodecq. The race had been won by the team with Dani last year and Claire was very active during the race. An early break by Claire hadn't managed to stay away, but late in the race she managed to get away in a small group. It was a dramatic last lap as this group could the first group of 3 in the last 100 metres. Having worked hard during the race, Claire didn't have a sprint left and finished 7th. It's a 3rd top 10 result in her last three races, leaving Claire confident ahead of her upcoming events.
