Beddoes back from the brink to retain Meadowood title

Top seed* Emma Beddoes* fought back from two games down to retain the *2012
Meadowood Pharmacy Open*against *Line Hansen* of Denmark.

World No24 Hansen dictated the pace from the start, cutting off the ball
early and hammering in the straight volley kills.  She established an early
7-3 lead, stifling a Beddoes fight-back and closed out the first game 11-8.

In the second, the Dane continued to dictate the pace but Beddoes was able
to trade points with her to nine-all when a fortunate bit of luck went
Hansen’s way and she closed the game 11-9.

The third game saw more of a traditional display from Englishwoman Emma
Beddoes, as she physically controlled the game with superb retrieving and
pacifying effectiveness with her length.  A gutsy, reinvigorated effort saw
the world No22 take the third 11-6, to kick-start her title retention bid.

It was a similar scenario in the fourth game as Beddoes continued to boss
the rallies, with her opponent unable to mount any serious contention after
such a promising start.  Hansen succumbed again to an 11-6 defeat to take
the match to its fifth game.

Hansen looked energetic as she attempted to quell the ferocity of Beddoes’
play.  She hits the first winner and followed it with a number of other
quick points.  Little separated the pair early on.  Long rallies,
collisions and let-balls demonstrated the want of both players to get their
hands on the 2012 title.

Beddoes broke free to lead 7-3 and then 8-5,  but Hansen dug deep and found
herself back in contention at 7-8.  With the end in sight, Emma Beddoes
stayed strong and took the next three points and the game 11-7, to retain
her Meadowood title, and her seventh WSA final win.
