BANDITS SECURE FIRST PLACE WITH 2-0 VICTORY OVER COMETS

Monica Abbott continued her stellar season tonight as the Bandits wrapped up the series with a 2-0 victory, claiming sole possession of first-place in the NPF with a 15-4 record. Abbott allowed just three hits the entire game, with help from her teammates solid defensive play all night.
The Bandits offense struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Kimi Pohlman led the inning off with a single up the middle, and a fielder's choice allowed her to advance to second. Megan Wiggins then stepped up to bat and delivered an RBI double, allowing Pohlman to score.
The Comets threatened in top of the fourth inning, getting two runners on base, but Abbott prevailed, recording a strikeout to end the inning and keep the Comets scoreless.
The Bandits broke through again as Pohlman scored her second run in the bottom of the fourth inning. She got on base with another leadoff single up the middle and then stole second. Danielle Zymkowitz's sacrifice bunt allowed her to advance to third. Pohlman was ultimately able to score off Vicky Galindo's choppy infield hit, making the score 2-0 heading into the fifth inning.
The Bandits threatened again in the sixth after Tammy Williams singled and stole second, but in the end she was left stranded.
Abbott recorded 11 strikeouts on the night, bringing her season total to 86. Tonight's victory also improved her record to 7-1, while Comets pitcher Taryn Mowatt falls to 0-5.
The Bandits hit the road this week, travelling to Florida as they take on the USSSA Pride for the second time this season. The Bandits will be looking to defend their first place standing as the Pride sit just one game behind them in second place. The series begins on Thursday, with the first pitch set for 6:05 pm.
