The Australian Fast5 Flyers have bounced back from their Day One defeat at the hands of New Zealand, with a nail-biting two-point victory over a determined Malawi 35-33.
In a low-scoring affair, it was an intense match from the first whistle, Malawi opting for two-point scores at every opportunity.
The Flyers were getting more of the ball than their opponents although were finding it difficult to convert in the shooting circle. The scores were tied up six-all at quarter time.
It was a similar display in the second quarter, the Australians scoring all five goals from the one-point range, three at the hands of Kate Beveridge.
However it was Malawi who was more experimental, scoring two two-point goals and one one-point goal, levelling the scores at the main break.
Malawi activated their powerplay in the third quarter, scoring a massive 18-points despite the Flyers' strong defensive efforts.
Co-captain Erin Bell scored all of Australia's third quarter score, leaving the Flyers to trail by 12-points at the final break.
Australia had their powerplay in the final quarter and were determined to take control of the match.
Erin Bell dominated the Flyers' scoring again in the powerplay quarter, shooting one one-point goal and a massive four two-point goals.
Bell's final two-point goal of the match was the winning shot in the last minute of play, thanks to an inspirational defensive effort from Ash Brazill.
Bell said she was happy to get the winning result.
"Malawi are a tough opponent and I'm just so glad we managed to get that one.
"They have improved so much over the years and they are so athletic.
"I think we had a bit of a slow start probably being a little bit conservative on the shot, just to work into it."
The FAST5 Flyers take on England at 12.45pm (AEDT). Catch all the action live on FOX SPORTS 3.
