Australian Diamonds (76) defeat Scotland (18)

The Australian Diamonds have recorded another impressive victory against Scotland in the second Test of their UK Tour, defeating the home side 76 – 18 in Glasgow.

The young Diamonds put in an outstanding second quarter, adding 23 goals while restricting Scotland to just 2 scoring shots.  The Australian shooters were in fine touch, all boasting percentages in the 90s while coach Norma Plummer was delighted with the efforts of her defensive end in the absence of vice-captain Mo’onia Gerrard who was ruled out due to a soft tissue ankle injury sustained in the first Test.  Bianca Chatfield was named player of the match and Plummer also nominated Bec Bulley as another stand-out, with a  rock solid performance in defence.

Plummer swapped up the team at half time to give the younger players another run before the next Test against England.

The tour continues later this week when the Diamonds take on third-ranked England at Echo Arena in Liverpool.  For full details see below.

Norma Plummer quotes

“We started a little slowly again and things became a bit physical with them running three onto the attacking player but we were able to really open it up in the second quarter and let the ball do the talking.”

“Bianca Chatfield has turned things around after a slow start in the first Test and thoroughly deserved her best on court in this match.”

“Bec Bulley has been outstanding and had a fantastic two games in this series.  She’s worked tirelessly and nothing has gone past her – unlucky not to have been best on court in both games.  Nat Medhurst has also had a great first two games.”

It was great to have Nat von Bertouch back on court.  I swapped it up at half time to give the younger ones a go.  It was strange to see two talls in the goal circle for Australia – something we aren’t used to!”
