World number six Karen Murphy has reigned supreme at the Australian Indoor Championships for the fourth time in five years after prevailing at Tweed Heads today.
During another dominate display, Murphy, who claimed a hat-trick of crowns from 2007 to 2009 before relinquishing her title 12 months ago, restored normal order when she swept past Warilla’s Vicky Turner 11-2, 12-3 to regain one of her most prized treasures.
“I really wanted this one,” Murphy said.
“After the disappointment of last year, I really wanted to put my stamp on things again.
“I really enjoy playing on the carpet, I feel like it’s a bit like my backyard.”
During a blazing start, Murphy raced out of the blocks as she picked up a full-count on the opening end to assert her authority on the contest before a treble two ends later all but seal the first set.
Drawing on the Tweed Heads crowd, who claim Murphy as one of their own, the 37-year-old continued to power ahead as she opened up an 8-0 lead through four ends before Turner raised hopes of a comeback with a triple.
