WA's Noelene Abe has earned a confidence boost with an opening round win
Western Australia’s Noelene Abe has earned a confidence boost at the National Champion of Champions this morning with an all-important first up win.
Abe, who last season claimed WA’s ‘outstanding female bowler’ award, already cemented her position in the pairs final yesterday but remains eager to perform in the singles and earn a shot at the World Champion of Champions in Cyprus next year.
With victories at a premium at the cut-throat competition, Abe escaped the first round in the tie-break to Northern Territory’s Arlene Foley, after comfortably winning the first set but falling short in the second.
As a result, she remains in the running to top her pool and progress through to tomorrow’s final, but faces a monumental task ahead against Australia captain Lynsey Armitage in round two, who will be looking to continue her good form after inflicting an 13-5, 10-7 win over the ACT’s Sharon Harmer.
In the opposite pool, NSW’s Jan Agar clinched a 7-6, 8-8 victory over Tasmania’s Mary Beaumont, while Victoria’s Sandra McColgan enjoyed an impressive 12-7, 11-9 win over South Australia’s Kerry Treloar.
The second round of the National Champion of Champions at Mandurah will commence at 12.30pm AWST today.
