Australia - Womens Rugby League showcased

The New South Wales Women's Origin team's quest to win the State of Origin title begins in earnest this Saturday when the sport will take part in the Sydney Olympic Park Authorities, Women's Sport Festival.

There will be a series of exhibition matches played throughout the day, with the highlight undoubtedly being an U19 City Vs Country clash with players from all over NSW participating.

NSW Women's coach Karen Stuart will be on hand to oversee the match and views the game as a genuine selection trial.

"Last year one of our under 19 girls went on to play for Australia, so there is definitely some real potential amongst our emerging players," Stuart said.

"Hopefully a few girls put their hands up for Origin selection on the weekend."

Free skills clinics will be run at 11am and 1pm and all interested parties are encouraged to come down and participate.

NSWWRL President Martin Meredith is delighted at the prospect of Women's Rugby League being showcased in this manner.

"For our sport to be able to promote itself in this fashion beside other world class sportswomen just goes to show the interest amongst the public in Women's sport," Meredith said.

"Rugby League is proud to be at the forefront when it comes to inclusivity in sport and everyone has the opportunity to participate regardless of age, race or sex."
