CANBERRA (2010 FIBA World Championship for Women) - Fans of the World Championship-winning Opals of 2006 will have the opportunity to watch the current icon of Australian basketball, Lauren Jackson, battle future superstar Liz Cambage in the WNBL Grand Final on Saturday.
Jackson, 28, one of the leading players in the world, is on the books of the Canberra Capitals and will run out onto the floor to face the Bulleen Boomers and their 18-year-old center, Liz Cambage.
Both players are expected to be in the Opals’ line-up later this year when they attempt to defend their world title in the Czech Republic.
The coach of the Opals, Carrie Graf, is also the coach of Canberra and she has an idea on what’s going to happen on Sunday.
"It's a world-class superstar (Jackson) against someone (Cambage) who could be a future star," Graf said.
"(But) traditionally in those match-ups, once the veteran has a practice against the rookie, the veteran's going to come out the better in that match-up."
Both players have been prominent for their teams this season.
"It's going to come down to our team and how we play as a team," Jackson said, playing down the importance of her individual match-up with Cambage.
"I'm focusing on what we can do to get better as a team."
Jackson had 40 points when the teams met on February 13 but Bulleen won the game.
In October, before Jackson’s arrival, Bulleen prevailed as well.
Jackson, who has also played in the WNBA and in the EuroLeague, has won five WNBL titles in her career – four of them with Canberra.
