Archery-VAN LAMOEN (CHI) is eliminated

There was an upset in the women's individual 1/32 elimination round when Kristine ESEBUA (GEO) recorded a 6-0 win against former world champion Denisse VAN LAMOEN (CHI).

Women's Individual

VAN LAMOEN was a surprise world champion in 2011 but the most memorable moment of her Olympic Games will be carrying the flag at the Opening Ceremony. She lost 6-0 to ESEBUA (GEO) in the 1/32 elimination.

Berengere SCHUH (FRA) won the last match of the day, by 1mm, in a shoot-off with LIN Chia-En (TPE). It was so close that the judges had to measure the two arrows twice to check who would progress into the next round, a rare necessity. SCHUH had earlier beaten Kaori KAWANAKA (JPN) 6-2, closing with a perfect end of 30.

British pair Naomi FOLKARD and Alison WILLIAMSON did not reach the 1/8 elimination round even with enthusiastic crowd support. FOLKARD lost 6-2 to Mariana AVITIA (MEX) while Bishindee URANTUNGALAG (MGL) won 7-3.

Maureen TUIMALEALIIFANO (SAM) goes back to her job in a bank after she lost 6-0 to LEE Sung Jin (KOR). TUIMALEALIIFANO only switched to the recurve bow at the start of 2012 and was delighted just to be competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
