The start of the AEGON Classic has seen a number of upsets as Tara Moore, Anne Keothavong and Melanie Oudin claimed victories over some big names on day two.
The two British players and the 20 year old American defeated the 10th, 11th and 12th seeds as play got underway in the women's singles main draw.
The first win of the tournament went to world No.320 Tara Moore who knocked out 11th seed and world No.53 Iveta Benesova in a comprehensive 6-1, 6-2 scoreline.
Moore spoke afterwards: “I played well, it was tough playing a seed and it was my first main draw WTA event so I was nervous but I just kept the pressure on her. I love the grass, I performed well today and this win gives me great heart going forwards.”
Swiftly following the win the first match of the day was completed on Centre Court as 20 year old Melanie Oudin from USA defeated 10th seed Sorana Cirstea (ROU) 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
On Centre Court results kept going the way of the British players as Anne Keothavong knocked out 12th seed Tamira Paszek 6-2, 7-5 before Mel South defeated 2011 AEGON Classic quarter-finalist Mirjana Lucic 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
