Britain’s acrobatic World Games heroes have returned to Liverpool to claim the country’s top honours at the 2017 British Gymnastics Championship Series just days after landing back in the UK.

In the senior women’s trio, it was the World Games bronze medallists Ilisha Boardman, Emily Hancock and Isabel Haigh from Heathrow who claimed the title with an intricate and mesmerising performance scoring 28.760 to finish just ahead of the promising Richmond group Jennifer Bailey, Roxy Parker and Gabby Potter in silver with 28.550. In the bronze medal position was East Kilbride’s Nicole Smith, Zoe Smith and Megan Gemmill with 25.750.

The senior mixed pair gold was also won by recent World Games bronze medallists Lewis Watts and Kitty Williams from Richmond with a score of 29.430. The pair performed an extremely complex routine that had the crowd on the edge of their seats. In the silver was Lily Fisher and Matthew Scott from Saltney with 21.500.

There were also lots of impressive routines from the age group gymnasts who show great promise for the future.

The rhythmic event concluded with multiple apparatus finals across the categories. In the senior individual event, Laura Halford from Llanelli once again dominated the field, taking three of the four titles; the ribbon, hoop and clubs with the Welsh gymnast looking in good form ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games. It was her teammate Gemma Frizelle who clinched the ball title, who will also look to head out and make her mark at the Games next year.

The TeamGym Challenge event and the Gym for Life Challenge also took place, with several fantastic routines to a packed crowd.
