Honolulu (Thursday, May 24, 2007) - With more than 90 per cent of auction lot space for the fourth biennial Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction, presented by Quiksilveredition, already filled, attention is turning to the Antique Road Show-style appraisal that will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007, the day prior to the main auction. A handful of spaces are being held for special items that surface between now and then, and from the appraisals. The wave of international interest from collectors and enthusiasts around the world has also led curator Randy Rarick to offer a live auction online via Ebay.

"We've been overwhelmed by the rarity and quality of items that have surfaced for this year's auction, as well as the incredible amount of interest it has garnered," said Rarick.

"I'm really excited about the Antique Roadshow-style appraisal that we allow anyone to bring in their antique surf items. We're going to get to see some real treasures that wouldn't otherwise come out into the open. In previous years we've only seen items that collectors are willing to part with. But with the appraisal portion of the auction this year, I know we're going to see some incredibly rare and valuable pieces."

Recent items to surface for the auction include the first known drawing of a surfer that was published in 1831, as well as the first known article about surfing that was published in 1822. There are also personalized boards of key surfers and shapers, as well as never-before-seen art. All items in the auction are a minimum of 25 years old.

Along with the live auction and appraisals, there will also be a silent auction of smaller collectibles that include trophies, posters, decals and photos.

The popular "Peek of the Week" is now up on www.hawaiiansurfauction.com, along with complete information about bidding and other auction details.

The Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction will run in conjunction with the All-Collectors show at the Blaisdell Center. A portion of proceeds from the Vintage Surf Auction will benefit the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Scholarship Fund.
