THREE goals from penalty corners gave England Under-21 Women an emphatic
Head coach Andy Bradshaw was delighted to take a convincing victory over a Spanish side who had held his team to a 1-1 draw in the first of their three matches the previous day.
“It was an improved performance from the day before,” he said. “We pressed better as a team and were more aggressive and took the game to the Spaniards. “All three goals came from short corners which was pleasing as we’ve been working on that during the camp. I’m also pleased that the defence had a clean sheet. It all helps build confidence ahead of the final game on Tuesday, and going forward.”
England had to wait just 12 minutes for their first goal, which came after a slick move from Clifton’s Harriet Pearce, whose pass was deflected in by Cannock’s Hollie Webb.
The second goal came three minutes before half time, and it was Belper’s Jess Wood who fired home a shot which came off a Spanish defender. And the third goal came shortly after the break, with Birmingham University’s Sophie Bray diving at full stretch to direct the ball home on 39 minutes. The final match of the series has been moved slightly, and now starts at 1030 on Tuesday, not 1500 as previously advertised.
