Following the recently completion of the 2009 Asia Pacific Championships in Kuala Lumpur, which doubled as a qualifying event, all bar a dozen spots in the main draw of the game’s marquee tournament remain available, with a number of nation’s booking their tickets to Lockleys and Holdfast Bay in three years time.

With Australia assured of a berth in every discipline in the men’s and women’s events by virtue of their performances in Christchurch last year, joining them in the main field was the likes of India, China, Thailand and Norfolk Island.

Staged every four years, the 2012 World Championships will feature teams of five men and five women from the top-24 ranked nations across the globe, with the game’s finest players descending on Adelaide for two weeks of high class play from November 24 to December 9, 2012.

Late last month, Bowls Australia CEO Neil Dalrymple and his World Bowls counterpart, Gary Smith, put pen to paper on the official partnership agreement for the game’s benchmark tournament, thus eroding the final roadblock preventing the event from being staged at the Lockleys and Holdfast Bay bowling clubs.
