2008 AT&T USA Indoor Championships Athlete Quotes - Day 1

Women's long jump winner , Hyleas Fountain

"I had a lot of fun during the competition today. I actually enjoyed competing with and helping out some of the younger ladies. It keeps me more relaxed when I'm talking it up. Once I get on the runaway I'm very serious. But I need to stay loose before I jump. If I'm too tense I don't compete well. I'll be focusing on the heptathlon heading to the Olympic Trials. This was a good strength building effort for me today, taking all the jumps plus warm-ups. In the heptathlon we only get three jumps. I like coming in here and competing in individual events."

Women's shot put winner, Jillian Camarena

"WOW...It took me quite a while to get things together today. I finally nailed one on my last throw. I came in here trying to have a good competitive session. I've been working on a lot of technique for the past nine month or so. My plan was always to compete indoors this year, especially with the world indoors. "

Women's high jump winner, Amy Acuff

"This was a little disappointing today I didn't clear 6-6. But I felt very good. My practices have been going extremely well. I'm very excited. After the Fresno indoor meet I decided I could be competitive enough to take a medal at the world indoors, so I decided I was going to go. The past several years their have been nagging injuries so It's been a little frustrating. Lately I've been practicing well. So I'm excited about the remainder of this year."

Women's 3000 meter winner, Shannon Rowbury

"I haven't raced in 11 months so I didn't know what to expect today. I'm really happy and knowing I got about a five second PR is even more exciting. The game plan was to go with the pace and see if I could hang on and then kick. Surprisingly the pace seemed very comfortable. I'm not sure About going to the world indoors. I have to talk with my coach and see what the game plan is. I want to be ready for the trials come June."

Women's 1500 meter winner, Christin Wurth

"I feel fantastic but I still have a ways to go. I knew coming here I was strong. Last year I struggled with my confidence. It was a building year. My pan was to just sit and with 1000 to go I wanted to go for it. I believe coaching in this game is everything. I had a real good game plan coming into the race."
