The first IKA World Speed and the FFVL French Speed Championships began on sunday the 30th of March on the Plage Napoleon beach of Port-Saint-Louis with two legs held with a pretty light Mistral. 31 racers have raced this first day.

On the women's side, it's the American Melissa Gil who's surprizing everyone for her first speed competition and who is finishing first, directly followed by the 2008 world champ Charlotte Consorti and the world record holder Sjoukje Bredenkamp. Like the men, the first three are really close (30.03, 29.94 and 29.56).
Seeing the wind dropping, the staff decided to start quickly a second leg. Charlotte Consorti takes the first place, followed by Melissa Gil and another rookie, Marie Desandre Navarre (Alex Caizergues 'girlfriend).

The provisional overall ranking sees the rookie Melissa Gil leading the competition.
