Cheshire’s Newton manages England to T20 World glory

Current Cheshire player Laura Newton was the manager of the England Women squad that won the ICC Twenty20 World Cup at Lord’s on Sunday.

Newton, who retired from the international game in 2006, still represents her home county of Cheshire in the Women’s County Championship Division Two. She will make her next playing appearance on August 2 when the Route Organisation-sponsored Cheshire team travel to Warwickshire, and her next appearance in Cheshire will be on August 23 at Warrington CC when Yorkshire make the trip across the Pennines. Yorkshire supplied two of the victorious England squad in Katherine Brunt, the player of the match in the final, and Danielle Hazell, who did not play in the tournament.

Before these matches, a Cheshire squad of 13, which will not include Newton, will contest Division Three of the Twenty20 County Championship at Rugby in Warwickshire on July 29 and 30.
