Maria Sharapova is the tennis queen of Roland Garros. In an enthralling and top class final, a hard-fought 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 victory against the Romanian Simona Halep has handed the Porsche Brand Ambassador her second win at the French Open in Paris, the world’s most important clay court tournament. For the 27-year old Russian, who this season has already won the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart and the tournament in Madrid, it is her fifth career Grand Slam title. In addition to her 2012 success in Paris, she also won Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008.

“It was the toughest Grand Slam final I’ve ever played,” said Maria Sharapova who, in front of 15,000 thrilled spectators watching on Court Philippe Chatrier, converted her first match point after three hours and two minutes. “The win means a lot to me. Paris was always the tournament I always wanted to win. That I’ve now done it for a second time is unbelievable. A dream.”

The final was the fourth three-setter in a row for Maria Sharapova in Paris. Her win will move her up the rankings to No. 5.
