England’s Kelly Tidy is Europe’s top scorer in Junior Solheim Cup

England’s Kelly Tidy (right) was Europe’s top scorer in the PING Junior Solheim Cup match at Aurora Country Club, Illinois, USA, with a 100 per cent record of three wins.

But Kelly’s efforts could not prevent an overall loss for the European side, who were beaten 15½ -8½ by the United States in the two day match.

Kelly, from Royal Birkdale, pulled out of last week’s British girls’ championship so she would be fresh for this competition – and her plan paid off.

She teamed up with Ireland’s Lisa Maguire to win their first day fourball and foursomes matches and she polished off her singles on the second day by the healthy margin of 5/4.

The 17-year-old England girl international has previously played in the Junior Ryder Cup. She has twice been runner-up in the British girls’ championship and was also runner-up in the English girls’ earlier this month.

The Americans had established a 7½-4½ lead after the first-day and took the final set of 12 singles 8-4 for a comprehensive victory.

The result continues the pattern of the matches with the host team always winning.

The USA won in 17-7 in 2002 and 16-8 in 2005 when they had home advantage;

Europe won 12½-11½ in 2003 and 14-10 in 2007 when both matches were played in Sweden.
