Jacqueline returns as Brazil name South American champs squad
2008 Olympic champion Jacqueline was drafted back into the Brazil women's team on Tuesday as the 2011 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix silver medallists begin their preparations for the 2011 South American Women’s Championship with a ticket to the 2011 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Cup at stake.
The tournament will take place in Peru from September 27 to October 2 with the champions earning a berth to the World Cup in Japan from November 4 to 18 with the top three from the latter competition clinching a place at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Jacqueline missed the World Grand Prix through injury but returns to the squad for the biennial tournament.
Joining Jacqueline at the Aryzão Volleyball Development Center in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro will be Fabiola, Dani Lins, Sheilla, Tandara, Mari, Natalie, Paula Pequeno, Fernanda Garay, Sassa, Thaisa, Adenízia, Juciely and libero Fabiana Fabi.
Brazil have had a promising start to the year so far, playing 24 matches and losing just one, the World Grand Prix final to USA.
The side will be hoping to keep their immaculate record at the South American Women’s Championship as well where they have claimed the crown 16 times, including eight consecutive victories from 1995 up until the last edition in 2009.
