Émilie Heymans qualifies for second final at U.S., Grand Prix

FORT LAUDERDALE- Émilie Heymans of St-Lambert, Que., took second place in her three-metre semifinal heat to advance to her second final in two days on Friday at the U.S., Grand Prix diving competition.

He Zi of China won the heat with 351.90 points followed by Heymans at 315.80 and Tania Cagnotto of Italy at 311.70. On Thursday, Heymans and Roseline Filion of Laval, Que., advanced to the 10-metre final.

In the other three-metre semi, world and Olympic champion Guo Jingjing of China, Nancilea Foster of the U.S., and Yulia Pakhalina of Russia were 1-2-3. Meaghan Benfeito of Montreal was fourth and eliminated.

On men’s 10-metre tower, Rommel Pacheco of Mexico and Zhou Luxin of China won the semfinal heats. Nicholas Lachance of Montreal was eliminated in the preliminaries.

The only final of the night was the women’s three-metre synchro won by Pakhalina and Anastassia Posdniakova of Russia. There was no Canadian entry.

Competition continues through to Sunday.
