The competition has been marred throughout by heavy rain – and more is forecast. In today’s first matchplay round play had to be suspended during the foursomes and the singles were reduced to nine holes.
England finally went out to play their singles at about 6pm – after arriving at the course at 8am. However, they beat the conditions in style, winning all three matches. They were led by County Durham’s Ellie Givens who was three-under par for the six holes she played.
Team captain Sarah Miller said: “The girls really played fantastic golf, they pulled out all the stops. They were just wonderful.”
England will now play Italy, who defeated Austria.
