The world’s best women kitesurfers will shortly test the beautiful waters of the Cook Islands where triple former world champion and proud new mum Cindy Mosey is preparing for what she promises to be the best ever Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey.
A Cook Islands holiday is known for its mix of vibrant, authentic island culture, opportunities for action and adventure, hiking, relaxing and a huge variety of water sports.
New Zealander Mosey has been exploring all the possibilities for kitesurfing in this exquisitely beautiful part of the Pacific as she prepares for the Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey Aitutaki on October 2 - 8.
“We have found the perfect spot for the event – an amazing lagoon,” Mosey reported from the outer island of Aitutaki this week. “The spot is perfect.” The kiting spots we’re going to are huge sand bars with beautiful flat warm water riding and steady trade winds. It’s truly awesome riding - I'm having so much fun kiting again and can’t wait for all the girls to get over here!”
Balance Vector is again generously backing the event as its main sponsor like it has done since the odyssey began in 2006. North is also onboard again, joining Tamanu Beach Accommodation as proud silver sponsors. Air New Zealand Cook Islands and Hive Swimwear are also supporting the event.
Confirmed for the event are professional riders Kristin Boese (Germany), Laurel Eastman (Dominican Republic), Ania Grzelinska (Poland), Tomoko Okasaki (Japan) and Emma York (UK). They will compete in freestyle and boardercross and a downwind race.
Coaching of the non-professional kitesurfers attending the CMIO is again a focus of this unique event.
“It’s all about teaching the social riders and having fun - and there is always plenty of that,” says Mosey. “Having said that, when you get the world’s top competitors together there is always going to be fierce freestyle action on the water.”
Traders and adventurers, fishermen, yachties and beachcombers say the Cooks (as they're affectionately known) represent the last “true” island idyll with its craggy, tropical jungle-covered volcanic heart alive with almost as many beautiful native birds as it has brilliant tropical fish.
