News from Heather GREAT BRITAIN ultra distance squad. La Transe Gaule 9
1150km run across France from Roscoff in the North to Grussan plage south
Transe Gaule or shall I say Grauel was a true endurance race, a grueling experience
And an endurance life!
Rising at 5am every day, packing up camp and running as drawn broke was truly memorable, yet enduring the sports hall facilities was hard. “Ensuring your personal space, a plug socket, next to someone who snored, farted or had tummy upset was no mean feet. Waking in the night with some of the toilet blocks public and 50 yards down the road and joints ceasing, I’ve weed in so many bushes or against so many walls.
I did see France though from Roscoff, Brittany, down though Loire valley, Limoges, Midi Pyrenees, Mediterranean Sea, albeit mostly in the mini bus. The sweet smelling aromas awakening our senses each new day. From Grapes n vineyards, turnips, pears, sunflowers, peaches, more grapes n vine yards to lavender and walnuts, a truly memorable holiday with tired achy knees.
From Diclofenic pain patches, to compeed blister packs , freeze spray , ibuprofen, paracetamol, codine, each athlete having their own morning routine, bandaging their wounds, every one got injured some of us, who ran faster joints just ceased with out adequate rest or comfort.
Now with two weeks to go Heathers next feet is to compete for England in the 24hour event in the Commonwealth Games LLandudno North Wales.
Needing to secure her place at the world championships in Itaily next year Heather has to run a minimum of 126miles non stop within 24hrs.
