Young defender called up to Australian 21 & Under Team

Allied Pickford Melbourne Kestrels’ defender Amy Steel comes into the Australian 21 & Under line-up for their closed session matches against national senior teams from Jamaica and England next month in Melbourne.

The tenacious 18-year-old Steel replaces her Commonwealth Bank Trophy teammate, Julie Prendergast who was selected in the Australian Open team to battle world number four, Jamaica in the Holden Netball Test Series.

National 21 & Under coach, Lisa Alexander was impressed by Steel’s performance at the recent training camp.

“She was an invitee to the camp, but we were impressed with her match play and added her to the squad,” Alexander said.

“Amy is a great reader and thinker of the game and only just missed original selection. As a tall and agile defender, she has progressed well and her maturity for her age is wonderful.”

The revised Australian 21 & Under team is:
Sarah Ashmore (VIC)
Madison Browne (VIC)
Johannah Curran (VIC)
Susan Fuhrmann (WA)
Laura Geitz (QLD)
Kimberlee Green (NSW)
Renae Hallinan (VIC)
Alexandra Harding (NSW)
Janelle Lawson (WA)
Sharni Layton (VIC)
Samantha May (NSW)
Amy Steel (VIC)
Leah Shoard (NSW)
Caitlin Thwaites (VIC)
